Making an Appointment
Making an Appointment with your CLAS Academic Advisor
Students are able to make an appointment by calling us at (616) 331-8585, or emailing us at [email protected], but you might find it more convenient to schedule your own appointment using Navigate360, the University's advising appointment scheduling system. To schedule with your professional advisor (listed as "Professional Advisor 1" in Banner and Navigate):
- Click on the "Online Appointment Scheduling" button below to be taken to Navigate
- Enter: your GVSU "Username" and "Password" to be taken to your student page in Navigate
- Click: Schedule an Appointment on the upper right side of your student home page.
- You will be asked ‘What office would you like to meet with? Select: "Academic Advising"
- For Service: Select your major
- Click “Find Available Time”
- Choose: your appointment day/time and complete the appointment information
- Provide: "Comments" section: enter details about the reason for your visit. These comments help your advisor prepare for your appointment, so we encourage you to be detailed!
- Select: if you wish to receive an email/text; enter phone number.
- Click: Schedule
Please note that while we strongly encourage you to schedule your appointment with your assigned advisor, if they are unavailable at a time that works for you you can also schedule with another professional advisor for your major.
Making an Appointment with your Faculty Advisor
Most faculty members do not use Navigate to schedule appointments, but there are a few ways to schedule an appointment with your faculty mentor (Listed as "Major 1 Advisor" on Banner and Navigate). You can either:
- Email your faculty mentor to schedule an appointment.
- Call or email your major department--contact info is at the bottom of each department's homepage. Department staff will be able to tell you when your faculty mentor's scheduled advising hours are. In most cases, you can drop by these hours without an appointment.
Please note that faculty mentors CANNOT lift first-year advising holds. If you are a student in your first year at GVSU and need to have your hold lifted, please see the instructions above to schedule an appointment with your professional advisor!
