Grand Valley has launched the GV Faculty Focus podcast, highlighting individual faculty members and their contributions to transforming learners and the community.

Each monthly episode will feature a conversation between a faculty member and President Philomena V. Mantella where they will discuss the scholar's work, expertise and efforts enhancing students' experiences.

For the first episode, Mantella spoke with Matthew Daley, professor of history. Daley is an urban historian who has been a member of the Grand Valley faculty since 2004. His work focuses on the history of the United States and topics including affordable housing and the impact of race, class and labor on communities.

Daley talked about what inspires him as a historian, his approach with students – such as encouraging them to wrestle with uncertainty in their studies to sharpen their skills – and his current community history research focus.

Listen to the podcast and the conversation between Mantella and Daley.
