Portfolio Snapshot of Current Projects

The Information Technology Division is dedicated to driving excellence in project management to accelerate GVSU’s progress toward the vision of Reach Higher 2025.
Project management is the principal means of incorporating change in a business environment. It is important because it can help to ensure the right thing is delivered, that’s going to provide real value. Highlighted below are some of the projects that are currently being facilitated that will help faculty, staff, and students efficiently navigate the way they learn, teach, and facilitate their work at Grand Valley.
Project Management Office (PMO) Projects
Workday
Workday Student is a modern, cloud-based Student Information System designed to replace the current functions in Banner. This unified platform will streamline student data management, offer real-time reporting, and integrate seamlessly with Workday for HR, Finance, and Payroll. GVSU aims to fully operate on Workday Student by Fall 2027, with key functionalities going live in the 2026/27 academic year to prepare for this transition.
The GVSU Workday Journey website will be the central portal for information, updates, and resources that will be posted throughout the project.
My College Roomie (MCR) Housing Implementation
The project aims to implement My College Roomie (MCR) Housing by Campus Kaizen at GVSU to streamline and enhance the student housing management process. This platform will digitize housing applications, automate assignments, and improve communication between students and housing administrators. By integrating MCR Housing, the university seeks to improve efficiency, reduce administrative workload, and enhance the overall student experience.
Kirkhof Center AV Technology Refresh
Information Technology and Events Services are collaborating to upgrade the audio-visual (AV) technology in the Grand River, Pere Marquette, Thornapple, and all other event rooms in the Kirkhof Center. This enhancement aims to improve meeting efficiency and communication, ensuring seamless and effective interactions during events and conferences. Additionally, it will project a professional image to the GVSU community and support a more dynamic and engaging environment for all participants.
IT Projects
Windows 11 Migration
In 2025, GVSU is migrating computers to Windows 11, with completion expected by August. Windows 11 introduces a modernized user interface, enhanced accessibility features, and improved performance for a more efficient and intuitive experience. Key upgrades include a streamlined Start menu, AI-powered tools, and optimized system resources for faster performance. This transition provides users with a more productive and accessible computing environment.
WinLab Replacement
As part of our Digital Transformation strategy, IT has partnered with cloud vendors to replace the aging WinLab virtual computer lab environment with a more powerful, agile, and scalable managed solution. This new environment, piloted in collaboration with Propeller, offers enhanced computational power and supports specialized applications for various academic and research purposes. The project also streamlines software loads, creating a more efficient and secure setup. As the new environment undergoes testing, it will be gradually rolled out for broader use, ensuring it meets the needs of faculty and students.
Zoom Contact Center
To better meet the evolving needs of customer service operations, the Five9 contact center solution is being replaced with Zoom Contact Center. This upgrade will enhance customer support, boost agent efficiency, and reduce operational costs while introducing advanced reporting capabilities.
With Zoom’s scalable and feature-rich platform, this transition delivers a seamless, integrated experience that improves customer satisfaction, optimizes agent productivity, and drives overall business performance. This shift reflects a commitment to innovation and excellence in customer service.
