Strategic Plan to Augment Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity

A Strategic Plan to Augment Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (SPARCA) is being developed to honor Grand Valley State University's longstanding tradition of integrating research, scholarship, and creative activity into its core mission of learning and discovery. This commitment to engaged scholarly work enriches our academic environment and directly enhances our primary mission of teaching. As teacher-scholars, we recognize that research, scholarship, and creative activity is not just an academic pursuit—it is integral to how we teach, learn, and grow together.

The SPARCA will formalize our dedication to creating an environment where all members of the campus community can contribute meaningfully to GVSU’s mission. By doing so, we ensure that individuals are respected, empowered to thrive professionally, and supported in their personal and intellectual growth.

As the university continues to grow and evolve, it is critical that GVSU establish a clear, forward-thinking framework that preserves and strengthens the teacher-scholar model. This plan will ensure that engaged scholarship remains aligned with our mission of learning and discovery, and it reflects a university-wide commitment to fostering an inclusive, thriving academic community. By formalizing this approach, we are safeguarding GVSU’s values, ensuring their continuity regardless of leadership changes, and positioning the university for long-term success.
